Great Emotion in the show "Born on March 21," performed by the Astrolabio Cultural Association during Foiano's Saperi e Sapori Week.
The inspiration was all there: the life of Alda Merini, a great twentieth-century poet, a journey suspended between pain and joy, real life and poetry. The performance addressed the topic of mental health, a social issue barely addressed through integration and solidarity, especially in the past. Equally important was the delicate issue of women, painfully embodied by the fragile and bold poet, who was so quickly labeled as mad, hysterical, and mentally ill.
The Valdichiana actresses expertly accompanied by director Anna Ianunzio, explored Merini's poetic vocation in a alternating flow of voices and songs. It literally explodes within the asylum, desperately searching for true love and the resolution of family ties, in a surreal biographical tale with a powerful emotional impact that inevitably shakes the audience.
The location was crucial: the Furio del Furia gallery in Foiano, once a prison and a place of pain, enveloped the actresses in a vibrant energy of desperation. From those walls, the voices of the actresses/women in the asylum echoed, along with the heartbreaking voices of the inmates who once suffered hellish punishments here.
