They were obviously a privilege of high society until years 20s.
Then industry began to manufacture them in large quantities on an industrial scale, and were manufactured in glass, paper, wax or wood.
In the 50s, the toppers had become for married couples an article very fashionable and were made in celluloid.
These pretty pictures are now a must in a wedding cake and are important because they symbolize the romance and marriage between husband and wife, they mean something that indicates the mutual love.
These days are also used on cakes christening, birthday, anniversary and retirement.
