Endless applause for the Russian maestro Grigory Sokolov who warmed the hearts of the Chigiana audience with a Christmas-themed program.
Performance of very high poetic intensity resulting from high artistic knowledge and profound knowledge of the works. Sokolov, one of today's greatest pianists, boasts visionary virtuosity and exhilarating spontaneity, the result of an almost infancy education. Born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Grigory Sokolov began his musical studies at the age of five.
At 12 he gave his first public recital. His prodigious talent was recognized in 1966 when, at just sixteen, he became the youngest musician ever to win First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Only with the fall of the Soviet Union, the first talent outside the international media, Sokolov gave himself to an international audience by performing with the most prestigious orchestras in the world at the main European festivals. Subsequently, like yesterday, we heard him at the Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena in an unforgettable performance for solo piano. What can I say, Siena welcomed and embraced the technique and virtuosity of Maestro Sokolov who generously gave himself to the audience of the Accademia Chigiana who, as usual on important evenings, were able to appreciate and enhance this gift.
